Deadstock fabrics have been an amazing source of inspiration and sustainable resource for designers of late. But what is deadstock fabric?
It’s leftover fabric from other fashion houses or fabrication mills who overestimated their needs. Traditionally, brands would hold on to excess fabrics for a few seasons and then send them to the landfills. By selling and repurposing these fabrics, designers are able to purchase limited quantity textiles that would have otherwise been waste and produce limited edition styles.
The quantity limits and sourcing challenges will keep deadstock fabric from ever going mainstream and mass-produced, but for the smaller brands that are looking to reduce and reuse, it’s a brilliant option! Here are 5 of our favorite styles that are sure to turn heads and be one-of-a-kind.
Roop Furoshiki Satin Bag
Roop designs cute knotted mini bags from deadstock and vintage fabrics. We love how these one-of-kind gems keep things fun and exciting especially this blue polka dot bag made from deadstock satin.
Collina Strada Floral Primrose Blouse
Look no further than Collina Strada’s button-front top for your next statement blouse. The top is designed and produced locally in New York using deadstock rayon with shoulder pads and a lace-up back.
Miaou Hawaiian Printed Mini Skirt
Miaou is a Los Angeles based brand designing from deadstock and sustainable fabrics in limited quantities. We are obsessed with their matching skirt and corset looks and particularly this black and nude Hawaiian printed mini skirt made from a deadstock mesh fabric.
Collina Strada Quilted Tote Bag
This mini quilted tote bag is made from deadstock fabric including deadstock fabric from Collina Strada’s own past collections. It includes a removable bow, rhinestone pin, and cell phone tag. Get yours quickly as it’s a limited edition of 24!
Marine Serre Crescent Embossed Leather Mini Dress
We are loving this silhouette with padded hips and a tailored bust combined with Marine Serre’s signature crescent moon print. The dress is made from deadstock-leather and will be equally as striking worn alone or layered over a thin turtleneck come winter.
